Surgical extraction is a minor surgical procedure that involves lifting of the soft tissues and sometimes removing part of the bone (with a drill or chisel). After they are loosened, the wisdom teeth can either be removed whole or they must be cut into parts and removed gradually.
After extraction, some patients may develop “oroantral communication”, which is a condition when the oral cavity communicates through the extraction site by a shared cavity. In this case, it is often necessary to perform some soft tissue plastic surgery and suture the wound.
This case occurs most often when a root or roots of the teeth are anatomically positioned so that their tips extend into the maxillary cavity. This problem, however, can also occur during careless or surgical extraction of a tooth, when it is necessary to cut the tooth into several parts. In this case, surgery of the oroantral communication is required. You will not feel any pain during the procedure, only slight pressure. The length of the procedure varies, but it usually only takes a few minutes.
